The first and the important thing is to have a good and updated collection and ofcourse good taste of music (this first step applies to every dj let him be radio, club or mobile dj). Your djing skills play one of the crucial role in this industry for instance the most basic skill is to mix the two tracks 'Perfectly'. Another skill is 'micing' u can use this skill to cheer up the crowd ( only on the condition that u know what are u gonna speak on the mic). In a gig a dj should know to study the crowd many times the crowd may not be interested in the track/genre which the guy is playing . Thus he can play different genres and see to which the crowd responds the most and he can continue with the same or if u are a dj who only plays a specific type of genre u can switch to another track and see the response. Let your set be energetic i.e start from tracks of 124 or 125 bpm and slow and gradually take it up to the tracks of 130 and above bpm. These were some basic skills a dj should have. If people request u a track and u dont have that track if possible download it during your gig or make sure u add it your collection after the gig.
Socializing plays the most important role in this industry . In parties or weddings or clubs people may ask for your contact numbers make sure u have your business cards ready . Be in touch with other local djs and dj communities on the internet and in real life it ll help u to stay updated about the upcoming artists and tracks . Chances are that u may get some business from them aswell. You can even learn from their experiences.
Let's talk about equipments I ll suggest u to buy basic equipments except speakers & headphones they must of good quality ( if u are on the basic level) . As u increase your level in djing u can also upgrade your system simultaneously.
(optional) Production - If u also want to be a producer learn more about music & music production before entering in to producing music. Do some courses related to production of music.many music schools are available all over india .If u know to play some instruments it ll be an add on . Create your own style of music by hearing the track people should come to know it's your track.
Marketing - Create your own Facebook page keep it updated be active on social media like instagram, twitter etc. I ll suggest u to have a website it makes u look professional plus it ll be convenient for people to know about u and contact u .
